Rbbt from Bad Trip Symphony Talks ‘Conman,’ Indie Music Hustle & What’s Next

In this exclusive interview, we catch up with Rbbt from Bad Trip Symphony to discuss their latest track ‘Conman,’ his creative process, and what’s next for the group. From collaborating with Ahmer to upcoming projects, Rbbt gives us an inside look at their journey in the Indian hip-hop scene.

Q) How did the collaboration with Ahmer come about? Have you worked together before?

Rbbt: It was a strange turn of events. We had a mutual friend who shared a beat with us back in 2019. At that time, we were all considering working on it together. I ended up using that beat this year and reached out to Ahmer for approval. He immediately gave the green light—such a G, you know! That’s how the collaboration came to life. Hopefully, I’ll get the chance to work with him as an artist in the future.

Q) The music video, directed by Anukash, has a distinct visual language. What was the thought process behind the concept? Did you give him creative freedom, or was there a specific vision you wanted to execute?

Rbbt: I’ll let Anukash answer that.

Anukash (Director): The core idea behind the music video was to create a subtle yet engaging visual experience. The audio and performance were already powerful, so the visuals needed to complement the song rather than overpower it.

We chose a black-and-white colour scheme to emphasise composition and used static shots to maintain focus. Interestingly, we shot the video on an iPhone 16 Pro Max, which is a beast if you know how to control it.

I had creative freedom, so I incorporated a few scenes that subtly reinforce the song’s message—like “milking this opportunity,” “big dog,” and more. Overall, this was my first music video with this talented rap duo, and we’re working on even crazier songs and visuals. A full treat for the audience is on the way!

Q) Your lyricism has always stood out, and ‘Conman’ is no exception. If a new listener is discovering Bad Trip Symphony for the first time, besides ‘Conman,’ which track from your catalog would you recommend as an introduction to your sound, and why?

Rbbt: Thanks, man, that means a lot!

That’s a tough question because we love experimenting with music—blending different genres and sounds is our thing. But if I had to pick, I’d say Guldasta, Khayal, Gaane Mere Baje, and Daanav, among others.

Honestly, I think it’s more fun when listeners explore our music and find their own favorites!

Q) You’ve built an extensive catalog over time. What’s something you’ve learned about the indie music grind that you wish you knew earlier?

Rbbt: For me, making music has always been about passion—it’s as simple as that. But if there’s one thing I wish I had known earlier, it’s how to make the right connections and take the next step with other artists.

That said, I believe the journey itself is what truly matters. I’ve learned so much along the way, and I love every bit of it.

Q) What’s next for Bad Trip Symphony? Any upcoming projects, collaborations, or experiments we should look out for?

Rbbt: Yes! We have an album dropping this summer titled OCB: Official Certified Bangers. This one has no collaborations—just us. But we do have two EPs in the works with some exciting features.

As for experiments? You’ll definitely see something fresh in our next single. Stay tuned!

A huge shoutout to Rbbt for this deep dive into Bad Trip Symphony’s journey. Their upcoming album, ‘OCB: Official Certified Bangers,’ promises to bring a fresh sound, and we can’t wait to hear what’s next. Keep your playlists ready!
